The nuclear-powered cruiser USS Long Beach was, at one time, armed with both Terrier and Talos SAMs, as well as ASROC and two old 5-inch mounts. The weight of the Talos SAM systems, with the fire control systems and large magazines, must have been tremendous even on such a large vessel. Sometime in the '70s, the obsolete Talos systems aft were removed and the Terrier systems upgraded to Standard missiles. What happened to the space and weight occupied by the Talos systems aft?
