Some times the unix system has wrong information about the actual speed of the connection. The unix system here constantly thinks the speed is 34000 bps! Needles to say that under that lie, emacs behaves like a moron. You just have to execute the command 'stty 2400' or whatever (before you enter emacs), and emacs will get to its sences again.
