We don't need the detailed results of the trace route routine, but we do need frequent reinforcement of the suspicion/notion/fact that the present (EGP) routing paradigm is inadequate. Something must be done, and that something will likely be painful. The community will not accept painful unless convinced of the need, and "trace route to OZ" is convincing.
