I thought that the limit was 32K characters; 29,997 is certainly a strange number. The same limit does not seem to be imposed on HyperCard variables, though; I just placed 60,000 characters into a global variable, and HyperCard did not complain. Is there a limit on the number of characters that a variable can contain (other than available memory)? Does anyone know why the limit for a text field is 29,997, rather than some sane number like 30,000 or 32,767? ___\ /___ Greg Anderson ___\ /___ \ \ / / Social Sciences Computing \ \ / / \ /\/\ / University of California, Santa Cruz \ /\/\ / \/ \/ sirkm@ssyx.ucsc.edu \/ \/
