It's not really that esoteric. StdText gives you access to the 'numer' and 'demon' parameters which are used to stretch and compress text. I presume this is the mechanism that's used for the compressed and expanded styles, as well as replaying text in pictures where the destination rectangle differs in its dimensions from the original rectangle.
