Cool, but I also update my system fairly often!
We have also been warned to keep our fingers out of the system whenever 
possible so I think it would be valuable to have a separate file as Phil
suggests.  One thing that does seem to work is to put TMPLs into a file 
that is opened by SuitCase.  The TMPL is then accessable through ResEdit.  
You can put TMPLs into a file full of other DAs and FONTs or make you own 
file of resources that you would like to have around (for whatever 
programs) and open it with SuitCase.  No guarentees but it seems to work 
ok with the cost of having one more file open.
