I need some help with finding a reasonable way to create menu resources.

I have ResEdit 1.2b3, which has a somewhat awkward menu template, but
I can't get the silly thing to actually save the menu in the resource file.
Everything looks normal, but when I quit, the list of MENU resources has
not been updated, and my work is not there when I come back to the file
later.

So I'm working with unmodified MENU resources that I stole from other
applications, but they aren't quite what I wanted...
