I got a reply from someone inside NeXT, Inc.
1.0 does not fix all known problems, and will not provide
complete IP support.  That's planned for a subsequent release.
The impression I got (although not explicitly stated) was that
1.0 is pretty much frozen at this point.

Do we lack confidence in NeXT's support for higher education?
Let's just say ... we have a bunch of Suns on order.  Our 9 NeXTs
have the best price/performance ratio and look-and-feel of any of
our workstations.  We have a commitment to support them and
develop applications.  They just don't do everything we need right
now.  And we don't have sources!!!
