Does anyone know how much of a hardware check that can be made on the
keyboard, mouse and frame buffer from a C program while SunOS is running?

I need to somehow inquire if the devices are functioning.  Will an "open"
on any of these devices fail if something major is wrong ?  I guess what I
really want is for some kind of ioctl call to make the devices run a
selftest of some sort and report the results back to me.  A related
question:  are there any tests that can be performed from software alone ?
