Can anyone recommend introductory texts for X11 ?

I'm going to be responsible for updating some in-house X11 programs
(the original programmer has left), which will in turn lead to 
writing new X11 programs.

Please reply by email to the address below, as I do not feel
competent enough yet to read this group on a regular basis. :-)
