I never really had the need to do this, but you can just turn on your parking lights for a second or two. Believe it or not, most drivers aren't alert enough to notice that the "third light" (if you have one) doesn't come on. Of course, if it's an obnoxious sumbitch behind you, just slam on the brakes for real!
