Cute idea, but I can react a lot faster to just a couple of bright red lights going on than I can react trying to distinguish one set of red characters from another. I suspect a lot of other people are the same way. We must have all seen the same movie, or something. I thought of the car- display idea too - but figured somebody had already done it.
