Keywords: B-2 media CBS Message-ID: <8268@cbnews.ATT.COM> Date: 14 Jul 89 02:43:35 GMT Sender: military@cbnews.ATT.COM Organization: Omen Technology, Portland Lines: 18 Approved: military@att.att.com From: caf@omen.UUCP (Chuck Forsberg) In discussing Congrssional reaction to the projected B-2 budget, CBS news suggested the stealth characteristics of the B-2 were not needed because the Soviet Air Force couldn't detect the Cessna that landed in Red Square. Wasn't the plane actually intercepted at least once, but allowed to fly on because of command confusion? If so, CBS is misrepresenting the incident's importance as the Soviet are unlikely to mistake NATO warplanes for civillian planes enroute to Ivan's dacha. [mod.note: Any replies to sci.military should be limited to the facts surrounding Herr Rust's flight to Moscow (in which, BTW, I'd be interested). Any comments on CBS's treatment/mistreatment of this affair should be directed to misc.headlines and/or talk.politics.misc. - Bill ]
