  on the subject of how often the branch delay slot is useful, an informal
look at some code (compiler optimised) for the HP3000 PA (precision arch.)
would lead me to believe that that slot can be used frequently for useful
work - one obvious example is the branch taking you to another procedure -
the delay slot can be used to loadup a parameter...

of course, your milage may vary,
