Lines: 14 A couple of days ago a new release of 'PAK' (v2.0) from Nogate Consulting showed up on the BBS's. It produces archives that are 5-10 percent smaller than LHARC and typically does so in 60-70% of the run- time. On the other hand, it offers no support for maintaining path infor- mation. It *does* have a 'security envelope' feature designed to allow the authenticity of an archive to be guaranteed. It seems that Phil Katz has sufficient momentum, both technical and sentimental, to weather any storm in the immediate future. Still, it's comforting to see that fundamental progress continues. -- Ray Berry kb7ht uucp: ...{sumax|thebes}!ole!ray COMPU$ERVE: 73407,3152 Seattle Silicon Corp. 3075 112th Ave NE.
