From somewhere in the deep dark depths of my mind comes a vague memory
of some personal computer (?) software that can image process
successive frames of scanned video/film, for such applications as the
analysis of a golf swing, a pole vault approach, a pitching windup,
etc.

Can someone point me to some references, resources, commercial
brochures, etc, so that I can refresh my memory and find out more
about this?
