It is not, so far as I know available in any form for 286 or 8086 and it is not available as shareware. Smalltalk/V, which is similar but probably not close enough for your course, will run on an IBM (somewhat crippled), and Smalltalk/V 286 will run on a 286 or higher machines, and is much nicer to use than plain /V. Things like 'A Little Smalltalk' will run (I think) on a PC, but has no interface. Basically, it is impossible to fit Smalltalk-80 in 640K and it is difficult to make the virtual machine work for a 286.
