Keywords: How do I install NetHack 3.0 Message-ID: <133@sdcc10.ucsd.EDU> Date: 31 Jul 89 17:57:08 GMT Organization: Pacific*Bell, San Diego, CA Lines: 48 I think that the basic assumption for NetHack 3.0 is that everyone is moving up to it from a prior level, becuase there is no installation procedure (in the files that I ftp'd). Is there an installation procedure that's available? I've moved nethack into /usr/games... I've created directory /usr/games/lib/nethackdir... I've created directory /usr/games/lib/nethackdir/record... I've created a zero length file in nethackdir called perm... However -- When I start nethack, I get: Warning: cannot write /usr/games/lib/nethackdir/record (This directory is 0777, owner bin, group bin) When I quit out of nethack, I get: record_lock: Not owner Waiting for access to record file. (299) . . . (file perm is 0666, owner bin, group bin; if I go into the nethackdir, I do not see a safelock file (linked to perm or anything else)) There's no on-line help... Environment: Compaq 386/20 running Xenix 2.3.1, Dev Sys 2.2 Thanks: in advance! -- Bruce W. Mohler Systems Programmer (aka Staff Analyst) bruno@sdcc10.ucsd.edu voice: 619/586-2218
