I use a DataLink 2400 with modemworks/proline, and use it EXACTLY like it comes from the factory. If you are using PRIME or some other software that looks for the carrier on the DTR line, THEN you switch the jumpers, which is equivalent to building a "crossed" cable. So, I recommend you set it up just like it came from the factory, if you haven't tried that yet. (BTW, I do not change the dipswitches either--nice to have something that you don't have to change at all to get it to work.)
