I'm assuming that you are talking about upgrading bug ridden chips with the new debugged chips. If so, are you sure that you have the old version? Only the a few of the first 1581's were shipped with the bad chips. I have a program that will check which revision you have. ---Reference the first sentence, this is regardless of your drive being in or out of warrenty.
