Prometheus Products, Inc. of Tigard, Oregon to be precise. I have owned a 2400G modem from them for 2 years, during which the modem has seen light use (a few hours a week) on a PC compatible. Apart from the initial disgust of buying the modem at $245 and see it drop to $150 a few weeks later, the modem itself has been returned for repair for a total of FOUR times in these 2 years (all under warranty). 1. Does not dial properly (dial tone, dials, nothing after that) 2. Does not dial at all (i.e. no dial tone) 3. Completely dead alltogether (right after it was received from repair #2 4. Does not dial properly (dial tone, dials, nothing after that) To their credit, they have a 2 year warranty policy though the person answering tech support was rather rude when I indicated the manual says one year ("Do you want me to charge you, sir?") Am I REALLY unfortunate or modems DO break down like that? The modem has a power transformer inside the box (i.e. no external adaptor) and that makes it bulky and possibly prone to overheating. So far I have spent $7 + $7 + $30 (fed ex both ways) + $7 + maybe $10 on calls, close to $60... and the warranty expires in two months. If anyone else has had such luck with Prometheus Products I'd like to hear from him/her. The modem WAS a PC Ragazine editor's choice (i think) or received very high marks back in '87...
