I had set up a system like this for a serious AutoCad User (a mechanical engineer) and there was no flicker at all. Yes I did run it at 800X600 and used the drivers supplied by the adaptor vendor (Vega in this case). These cost about $2000. There is a Mitsubishi 16" monitor and a Nanao 16" monitor that both claim to handle super VGA. I have used the Nanao but not as super VGA. I have no experience with the Mitsubishi but they claim higher reslotion than Nanao. These cost about $1000. Someone out there, I think it is Mitsubishi but I am not sure, has a 20" high (claimed) resolution monitor. I have never seen this one is action. >Thanks, in advance.
