Brunner) Organization: IBM AWD Palo Alto Lines: 25 References: The NIC host, which is the authorative nameserver (bind) for the Domain Name System, is finally set to retire the old, pre-domain name of sri-nic.arpa and adopt the fully qualified domain name of nic.ddn.mil The name change will take effect on 6 August 1989, and the old name will continue to be mapped (correctly) to the Internet address of the NIC. This change will affect code which has a hard-wired notion of what the name of the NIC is, see the source to the whois(1) command for an example. You may change the #define NICHOST in /usr/ucb/whois.c, recompile and install the corrected routine, or continue to use the existing code. Judging from previous Internet transitions, the "arpa" name will continue to be honored well into the next decade.
