Thanks to everyone who responded, this will definitely will help me to start programming in C. It seems by far the mopst recommended book was Kernighan and Ritchie's "The C Programming Language". As stated by a few people, this is the standard reference for the C programming language. While this book does not have examples in a parallel language and is a bit dry, it should help me in learning C. Thanks Again Brian Moore
