I am sorry that I have not answered the numerous request for source code. I have the code and it works in colour. It is much faster and tighter than the MacTutor code doing the same thing. HOWEVER, I cannot, just cannot get it to work when using several monitors with different depths. Same depth=no problem. One monitor=no problem. If anyone is still interested in the code, I have it, and indeed will mail it, but note the above limitations. (I will follow-up with a description of the problems.
