I will point out that it wasn't while dealing with a shell, but within uEmacs 3.9 (on a Sequent Balance). There may be an interaction there that you can't control. Then again, 2.29 never causes me a problem, modulo fat fingers. How big is the input buffer? I know that my instantaneous speed goes way over 100 wpm on certain letter combinations. It should be obvious I am not a touch typist just from that statement. Continuous typing though, I hit around 40-50 wpm. I assume the 150 wpm figure is a ballpark figure, or have you been running numbers through your machine? Mine is, BTW, a 7.5 MHz "upgraded" machine, with an old motherboard but a Hard Disk PS.
