Agreed.....remember. ..Digital makes this procedure look like an upgrade. You do not have to de-install the old environment (UWS 2.0) to upgrade to the new version. You forget to give credit to all the work done by the 'setld' and 'doconfig' utilities. They don't miss a beat in patching the old subsets and the kernel. You are not required to use raw utilities like 'tar'! ULTRIX will automatically move the new kernel to root and save the old one for you in any regular installation. Your point is well taken...
