Where can one get information regarding the services in /etc/services ?
That is, a description of the service, and the format of "the stuff" 
one would get from opening a socket with the service port and
lets say reading from it ? (ex. systat and netstat )

Is there some reference for using the service ports in /etc/services
in writing client applications that use these services ?
