On one hand, our distribution of X requires some fonts that aren't part of the standard supported fonts (they're the Kanji and Kana fonts, which are part of the contrib stuff). On the other hand, if I change the fonts/bdf/misc directory so that these fonts are there, I (or whoever is handling the distribution) have to make the change every time there is a new X release. We thought about changing our default font path, but this doesn't help our X-terminal users, who will still have to use "xset" to modify the font path. My current plan is to add a distribution-specific directory that will modify the existing fonts.dir and fonts.alias file when the special fonts are installed, but it seems like the standard X distribution could be a little better in allowing for this kind of thing without having to modify the distribution. -- David Elliott dce@Solbourne.COM ...!{boulder,nbires,sun}!stan!dce
