If you want to put a large (1152x900)bitmap into the background, and it is for a Sun console workstation, I would suggest using xbgsun, a little program written to put Sun rasterfiles into the background. It can be obtained from gatekeeper.dec.com, in /pub/comp.sources.x/xbgsun directory.
