[trust me!!] (setq gnus-use-generic-from t gnus-gnus-use-generic-path "bu-pub" gnus-your-domain "bu-pub.bu.edu") This is how I do it -- gnus-use-generic-path is "pawl", "rpi.edu" is my NNTP server, and GNUS generates "Path: pawl!shadow" while rpi.edu modifies it to "Path: rpi!pawl!shadow" [which is a valid path]...
