It appears that in the distributed fileset for Ghostscript 1.3, the
character rendering cache ("font cache") was accidentally disabled!
If there is a line in ghost.ps (somewhere around line 300) that says
	mark 0 0 setcacheparams
you should remove it, and Ghostscript will render text a LOT faster.

This bug may or may not have affected release 1.2 as well.  If it
did, I'm amazed that ANYONE likes Ghostscript any more.
