Our speaker is Ozan Yigit from York University, who will be speaking about the GNU (Gnu's Not Unix) project and its creators, the Free Software Foundation. The North York Memorial Community Hall is located on the bottom floor of the new North York Main Library building, located next to North York City Hall at the corner of Yonge Street and Park Home Avenue, about half way between Sheppard and Finch. ---------------------------------------------+ + Park Home Avenue +------------------------------------------+ + B | +-----------------------------+ | Y | NORTH e | | Library/Hotel/Office | | o | YORK e | | X | | n | CIVIC c | +----+ +---\-------------------------+ | g | CENTRE r | |City| \ | e | o | |Hall| Memorial Community Hall | | f | | | (bottom floor) | | /|\ t | | | | | | | +----+ | | | | +-----------------------------+ | | North | | Board of Education | | | | +-----------------------------+ | | +------------------------------------------+ | by subway: Take the Yonge line to the new North York Centre station. Take the exit to the North York Civic Centre and that'll take you into the library/office/hotel building. Walk down the long corridor - you're on the same floor as the Memorial Hall. Just before the turnoff to City Hall you'll find the short hallway to the Memorial Hall on your left. (I did see some signage. Honest!) by car: The North York Civic Centre is less than a mile north of hwy401 at Yonge. There are parking meters (not patrolled after 6pm) on the east side of Yonge and on Beecroft (parallel to Yonge and behind the Centre). Greg also says he knows of a no-charge parking lot in the evenings. You can also try the small lot below the Board of Education Bldg. Note that many side streets are no parking, but there should be plenty of spaces around. During the meeting, we will determine whether or not this room is suitable for long-term booking as the new home of UU. Good luck finding the place.
