R. Germany Lines: 38 Hello! Is someone from SoftQuad or a SoftQuad customer out there listening? We have the Author/Editor sgml editor for Macintoshes. We did not buy directly from SoftQuad but from their European distributer, who has not sent us any information about updates or improvements. We like Author/Editor very much, but it would be nice if there were more formatting abilities in the Mac WYSIWYG environment. (We translate to TeX usually, but most of our users would also like to have more control over layout for drafts or whatever without having to get involved with the details of TeX. In other words, we want our cake and eat it too, using Author/Editor as a kind of MS-Word but still being able to export to SGML and then to TeX or nroff/troff when appropriate. Some enhancments we would like to see for the Macintosh layout facilities of Author/Editor, in order of importance: 1) Support for graphics (MacDraw, MacPaint, etc.) 2) Layout control dependent on attribute values and context. 3) More page layout alternatives. e.g. multiple columns, footnotes 4) Automatic numbering of list items, chapters, etc. 5) Just about every thing you can think of. Can anyone tell us what SoftQuad is up with their Author/Editor product? We would also be interested in general information about other SoftQuad sgml and Unix software.
