I'd like to recruit some beta testers to check it for portability and other possible problems. I will make it generally available shortly after any problems the testers find are dealt with. Compared to release 1.0a which appeared in comp.sources.unix in November 1988, release 2.0 has the following features: + several dozen additional commands are supported, including the ones in the new elisp manual. + tables of contents are generated. + index entries are emitted and a script to generate indices is provided. + file inclusion is fully supported (@include command) + appendices are "numbered" with letters. + a font stack solves most nested font change problems. + bug fixes, some prettier formatting, and somewhat tighter code. If you would like to beta test release 2.0, you must agree to the following: + not to distribute the beta version to anyone else. + to immediately use it heavily. + to use it to troff and laser print documents. + to check the output carefully for quirks and bugs. + to read the documentation critically. + to report any problems to me immediately so i can get a good release out soon. In exchange you will get: + a warm feeling of having helped a small, anonymous portion of mankind. + my thanks and a mention in the readme. + a jump on lesser mortals who will not get texi2roff rel 2.0 until later. + a chance to feel superior to me when (if!) you find a bug. To receive a beta test version, please write to me describing what system(s) you plan to run it on and promising to abide by the conditions above. I will also consider, for a limited time only, requests for changes or additions to be incorporated into this version of texi2roff. ---- Beverly Erlebacher uunet!utai!utcsri!erlebach Computer Systems Research Institute erlebach@csri.toronto.edu University of Toronto Toronto, Ontario, Canada
