Message-ID: <8908152144.AA08437@life.ai.mit.edu> Date: 15 Aug 89 22:45:45 GMT Sender: daemon@tut.cis.ohio-state.edu Distribution: gnu Organization: GNUs Not Usenet Lines: 30 We have an interest in providing the GNU Emacs editor for a group of users on a VMS 4.7 system. Most of our users currently use CCA and/or UniPress emacs. Since our exposure to GNU Emacs' is minimal, I wanted to ask this newsgroup the following questions: 1) What are the pros & cons of obtaining a release of GNU-EMACS tailored for VMS, verses going after a recent Unix release? 2) Has anyone converted a group of users from either CCA and/or UniPress emacs before, and if so do you have any hints, literature or the likes which you would care to share? Anyone have a one page "cheat" sheet for getting new users of GNU emacs started? 3) There appears to be a high number of updates released. If so, what is a reasonable approach to ensuring GNU Emacs is current without becoming over burdened with maintenance. Please respond directly to me and if I recent enough responses, I'll post a summary to this bulletin bboard. J.
