i've been experiencing this as well.  i'm *damn* glad that i'm
not alone in this.  

ask mr. zuckerman in my database of over 2,500 names.  when indexed
on the lastname field, mr. zuckerman (and mr. zehr, mr. zobrist, et
al.) mysteriously disappear on a random basis.

we've created mr. zzzzbar to hold the file's bottom from dropping out
but sometimes he goes away as well.

it's a pain that i've had to include a reindex menu option (!cringe!)
on our secretary's dbms.  

what gives?!  alastair (awd@dbase.UUCP)?  has this been reported to a-t?
