Compared with DECnets capabilities for network management, Internet has been weak in our installations (is this also true in other installations?). Since SNMP has been standardized very fine in RFC1098 etc. I would like to know if somebody knows of a complete implementation on the market for SUN-UNIX and VAX-VMS machines. As I understand from the RFC1098 etc. I get the understanding, that SNMP is mainly intended for collecting (traffic ..) information, but restricted in support for trouble shooting. I hope, there is somebody who will correct this interpretation. Is there somebody (or do you know somebody) who is running Internet and DECnet concurrently? I would like to discuss the related problems with him (e.g. how to collect operator messages out of VMS, UNIX and gateway machines at a single location/printer). Armin R.
