NEVER use ^G as the second character of a command sequence. If you do, then how would you ever abort an initial ^C. I suppose you COULD type a character known to be bogus, but that's what ^G is supposed to be: a character that aborts any key sequence. Of course, emacs is customizable, so you can do what you want.
