I have to just say that I've been bitten by this a couple of times, and I've seen users bitten by it too. Our standard editor round here exit(1)s if you quit out, discarding any changes, so typically you type your message, leave the editor normally, reenter the editor to make some changes, realise that you didn't have to after all and quit out. Oops, start again.
