I too am impressed with the slick and polished effect that the Mac has in comparison. I also have a simple solution to the problem. If you would all just spend a few bucks to hire a professional artist (such as myself) to render the icons for your packages before publishing/distributing them, the problem would be solved. I have a farily sophisticated philosophy about what an icon is and what it should do. I have made quite a few of them. There is a very special art to designing and rendering an icon. It is a carefully thought out image whose purpose is to convey a maximum of information about a "thing" or about what a person wants to convey about a "thing", in a minimum of space. When done properly, an icon can be very gratifying to look at and to have created, and has a special kind of magic. I wouldn't want to make an ad out of this article, but I "am" available for icon creation. And not just for the cash. I have a sort of minor "mission from god" to do something about the poor state of the Amiga visually. (C-A, if that other guy isn't working out on 1.4, you know who to call ...) I have a great deal of respect for Amiga programmers, as far as their programming prowess goes, but please .... please ... please ... oh great code guru, let me do this simple thing for you! I shan't disappoint you. j.h. -- ========================================================================== Joe Hitchens -- Artist, Sculptor, Animator of Sculpture, Iconologist Adept joe@vixen ...!uunet!iconsys!caeco!vixen!joe joe@amie ...!uunet!iconsys!caeco!i-core!amie!joe
