Well, it turned into a big production because the thing kept accessing everything but the kitchen sink. My question is this: Could some kind of background program be built into 1.4 as part of the OS that would allow you to track what a program is requesting? Instead of just a window saying, "Insert Disk Graphs", there could be another window running that says "Program X is calling Library Y on Disk Graphs". This doesn't really come up to often, but when it does it sure is a pain. No flames please, if this turns out to be monstrously difficult or already implemented.
