I've never had it cause a harder to crash (i.e. my CMS s2/20s) but it has reached out and destroyed 3.5" disks at one time or another. I will add this however: Since I've moved it to my dedicated ProLine system and took off the 5.25" disk drive from the UDC it handles the 3.5" drive with nary a problem. If I had to do it over again I'd blow the UDC off.
