I would recommend buying this book << Writing Efficient Programs >> by
Jon Louis Bentley (author of << Programming Pearls >>), Prentice-Hall
Software Series, 1982, ISBN 0-13-970244-X, 170 pages. 

This book is really great. Has good clear examples and a lot of things
my computer science courses touched on but never discussed in depth.
