Message-ID: <68@iisat.UUCP> Date: 25 Aug 89 01:15:34 GMT Distribution: na Organization: International Information Service, Dart., NS Lines: 56 Food for the line eater, Yum! Yum!!! I have been reading the atari.st section for the last while now and I must say that it is about time that Atari brought out the "TT"(???). I used to own a complete ST set up right down to the Laser printer, and here are a few things that I have noticed about the machines and the company now that I have nothing to lose(not trying to start a war, but just seeing it the way that I have seen it). I work at a local software house that has about 10 ST machines in different formats, during the last few monthes we have had alot of trouble with the hardware, things like files vanishing, whole directories being wiped out, and things going wrong with the machines in general( anyone want a BIG bag full of dead mice!!!). All of our machines are run off of UPSs' and the drives are cleaned on a regular basis, along with complete backups of the hard drives. It is hard to explain why there seems to be so many problems with the ST?? When I had my system , I had nothing but good luck with ALL of it, but it seems that I must of been one of the lucky ones. The number one reason that I would never buy another Atari product is because of Atari's crappy customer support!!!!! Our local Atari dealer is number one in customer support and has a very large stock of the finest ST software at good prices, but it seems that everytime I talk to him he has NOTHING good to say about Atari. Don't get me wrong, I like the ST itself , but it takes more than a good machine to keep a company going, you have to support your customers. I did sell my ST system and bought an Amiga system mainly based on the following things: 1. You can expand the 2000 to just about any level that you want. 2. My friends at school that had them were very happy with their 500's, and the support from the local dealer was very good. 3. I was getting sick and tired of telling people that I had an Atari because they though that I had some kind of game machine, which it is not. 4. The most important reason being - No matter what you do the Amiga blows the ST away when it comes to graphics(hand down). I wish Atari all the luck in the world with their new Vapor machine(had to get that in, they deserve it!), and I hope that they start to listen to their customers, because without them they out of business. By the way Multitasking is great, I get to produce some bitching ray traced pictures while talking to you! later Barry Comer (before you ride this message off think about it, computer science students grow up to be the developers of real world programs, and when they decide to spend however many man years it takes to supply people with good quality software they are going to look at a company track record before making the move.)
