Tell that to Sun Microsystems, who have been selling Sun 3's based on
the 68020 for years now, and getting 2+ MIPS out of them.  (Of course,
Sun uses their own, proprietary, MMU, but there's nothing wrong with
that.

The 68030 has an on-chip MMU that Sun is using in their 3/80
entry-level workstation; this workstation requires a different UNIX
kernel than their 68020-bases machines, but is otherwise compatible
with them.

It remains to be seen how compatible the newest Atari products are
with the current ST line.
