Two of us purchased 4380S drives under the same deal. There was absolutely no problem in getting the drives to work with MacIIs, using SF&I and also commercial formatter/installer programs. There was a problem with a MacPlus, which prevented the machine from booting from the drive. This was NOT due to the infamous "Unit Attention" problem ("Unit Attention" had been disabled, and the machine fitted with new ROMs), but due to the excessive time the drive spends in self-test after a reset. Except for the above, we have been quite satisfied with the drives. The price ($1395) was reasonable, an enclosure/ps an additional $150, and the software (SF&I) readily available. The drive noise seems average for a full-height large capacity drive. The guts are reportedly Maxtor, and the manual that comes with the drive is very complete.
