Stop, Halt, Don't do anything.

Unless your wife is doing some pretty mundane low-level work with SAS, spend
the money and buy her a 286 to use for SAS alone.  I know that you 
should be able to buy one for $1400 including monitor, keyboard, and 30
MB harddrive.  Please don't try and make the MAC a PC.  It would be such a shame.
