You cannot use SetDItem to add items to a dialog item list.

There is a routine that is included with the Communications Toolbox,
AppendDITL (and ShortenDITL) which allow dynamic management of dialog
item lists.

These routines, when the CommToolbox becomes part of System 7.0, will be
included with the standard Macintosh System Software when 7.0 ships.
