References: <24047@labrea.Stanford.EDU> Reply-To: dela@ee.rochester.edu (Del Armstrong) Organization: University of Rochester Department of Electrical Engineering Lines: 53 I'm in the process of putting up a lab which consists of two NeXT machines. One has a hard drive, the other doesn't. The diskless machine is connected to our NeXT printer, and is intended to be a print server for the diskfull machine. Both machines are running 0.9, yellow pages, named, and netinfo. Printing worked fine, until I actually converted the diskless machine to boot from the server, rather then it's OD. The primary symptom is as follows: when printing from the print-client (i.e. the disk server) the output never appears. A lpq from the print-client produces the following listing ... ---------------------------------------------------------------- apollo [21]# lpq no entries apollo: Waiting for queue to be enabled on hera Rank Owner Job Files Total Size 1st root 44 .login 187 bytes apollo [22]# ---------------------------------------------------------------- Let me hasten to add that I've tried to insure that the contents of the root directory tree provided by the disk server are the same as that on the OD. Perhaps I've missed something, but I've compared every file that I can think of which might be related to remote printing. As near as I can tell, the proper queue is enabled on the print-server. In addition, if one prints something from the print-server it prints fine and even shows up in the lpq output on the print-client. I'm almost convinced that this is a bug, that print-serving is broken when one boots diskless but works OK when one boots from the OD. Any revelations or suggestions will be gratefully accepted.
